Very often emotions like anxiety, stress, anger, fear overwhelm us to a point where we react instinctively and then we regret what we said or did in that moment.
This is exactly the meaning of being punished “by an emotion” instead of “for an emotion”.
The difference between being overwhelmed by an emotion and living it so that it doesn’t take over us is crucial: in Mindfulness, we learn how to live emotions in a different way, we learn to stay with them and not let them get the best of us and push us to do things we later regret.
